The Journey That Brought Me Here

I didn’t find my way to this work through books or theories. I found it through life. Here is my story…

MY LIFE

Where It All Began

I grew up in a home shaped by addiction, violence, and fear. Even as a child, I knew something wasn’t right. I couldn’t explain it because I didn’t have the words. What I did learn was how to stay quiet, not ask questions, and pay attention to what was happening around me. That was how I learned to get through it.

As I got older, I became curious about why certain experiences stay with us. Why some moments pass, while others seem to linger. Why we can move forward with our lives and still find ourselves affected by things that happened years before.

Looking back, I think that curiosity is part of what led me into nursing.

For nearly forty years, I sat beside people during some of the most difficult times of their lives. I witnessed fear, loss, uncertainty, courage, and hope. Sometimes all at once. What stayed with me most wasn’t the illness or the diagnosis. It was the person sitting in front of me.

What I saw, over and over, was how deeply people needed to feel seen. To feel understood. To know that someone genuinely cared.

Over time, life taught me some of those same lessons. I’ve experienced loss, heartbreak, difficult relationships, estrangement, and the quiet grief that can come from accepting that some things simply won’t be what we hoped they would be.

MY DISCOVERY

Where the Healing Began

For a long time, I tried to make sense of things I couldn’t change. I spent years wishing certain situations had been different and hoping certain people would become who I needed them to be. Eventually, I realized there were some things I couldn’t change.

What I could change was the way I cared for myself.

After years of emotional pain and heartache, I reached a point where I knew I needed support too. Six years of EMDR therapy helped me see my experiences through a different lens. Slowly, things began to shift. Not overnight. Not all at once. Little by little, I stopped waiting for life to look different before allowing myself to find peace.

That experience changed me. It continues to shape the way I live, the way I listen, and the way I support others.

Today, my work is centered around helping people move through emotional pain in a way that feels safe, simple, and honest. Nothing complicated. Just practical approaches that fit into everyday life.

When I look back now, I don’t see wasted years. I see experiences that taught me compassion, lessons I couldn’t have learned any other way. I also see the path that brought me here.

And for that, I’m grateful.

“Your body already knows how to heal. It’s just waiting for you to listen.”
